Street riding in South Africa is not the same problem as street riding anywhere else. Our tar is patchy, our paving is uneven and our potholes are load-bearing parts of the national conversation. A board that is pleasant on a smooth American bike path can be genuinely unpleasant here.
That is why every street board in the Journ-E fleet runs oversized soft wheels rather than the small hard ones that look faster on a spec sheet. The Phantom and Spartan use 105 mm Cloud wheels; the Origins uses 90 × 55 mm PU. Those extra millimetres are the difference between rolling over a flaw in the paving and being launched off it.
Origins at R9,999 is the entry point — 1200 W, 40 km/h, 20 km, LED under-glow for evening visibility. The Phantom at R12,299 is the most powerful street board we make, the lightest to carry at 6.8 kg, and the value pick of the three. The Spartan at R14,999 is the distance option at 65 km and the one rated highest for load at 150 kg — buy it for the range and the rating, not for street pace, because the Phantom has more of that for less.
All three are hub-driven, which means near-silent running and no belts to tension or replace. All three ship from Johannesburg with a 6-month warranty and courier delivery countrywide.
