Chapter 01
Shipping & Delivery
Where we ship. Door-to-door anywhere in South Africa with The Courier Guy, from our Johannesburg warehouse. Because boards contain lithium batteries they travel by road freight, never air. Neighbouring countries are case-by-case - contact us before ordering, as cross-border lithium rules are strict.
Cost & timing. The courier rate for your exact address is calculated at checkout. Handling takes up to 3 working days; delivery then typically takes 1-3 working days to main centres (Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban) and 2-5 working days to regional areas.
Tracking. You receive your waybill number by email the moment your parcel is collected - track it any time on the Track Order page.
On delivery. Boards ship in protective, courier-compliant packaging and require a signature. Inspect the box before signing where possible; if anything looks damaged, photograph it before opening and log a Damaged on Arrival ticket within 7 days.
Chapter 02
Returns & Refunds
Every return, claim or repair starts on the Returns & Repairs page, where you log a ticket and get a reference number. Three paths:
A · 7-Day change of mind
Under section 44 of the ECT Act, online purchases carry a 7-day cooling-off period. Return your order within 7 days of delivery for a full refund, provided it's unused, unridden and undamaged with all accessories, manuals and original packaging complete. Once accepted, we arrange and pay for the Courier Guy collection. A board that's been ridden outdoors no longer qualifies.
B · Damaged or faulty on arrival
Log a ticket within 7 days of delivery and email clear photos and a short video of the fault (and the packaging, if damaged) quoting your reference. We pay the courier both ways on valid claims and our certified technicians assess within 3-5 working days of arrival - then you choose a full refund, replacement or repair. If assessment shows riding, impact, water, terrain or negligence damage, the claim is declined; we return the board or quote a paid repair instead.
C · Service & upgrades (paid)
Ridden, out-of-warranty or rider-damaged boards are handled as paid service - full terms in Chapter 04.
| Situation | Who pays shipping |
| 7-day change of mind (unused, accepted) | Journ-E - we book the collection |
| Damaged / faulty on arrival - valid claim | Journ-E - both directions |
| Damage claim declined after assessment | Customer (return leg), or convert to paid service |
| Paid service & upgrades - inbound | Customer |
| Paid service & upgrades - return leg (fixed or not) | Journ-E |
Refunds go to your original payment method within 7-10 working days of approval, depending on your bank. Nothing here limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or the ECT Act 25 of 2002.
Chapter 03
The 6-Month Warranty
Covered. Every board carries a 6-month warranty from delivery on manufacturing defects in the motor, ESC/electronics, battery and remote - in line with the implied warranty of quality in section 56 of the CPA. All warranty work is assessed and handled locally in Johannesburg by our certified electronics, battery and motor technicians; nothing ships overseas.
Not covered. Crash, impact, water or terrain damage; reckless riding or negligence; unauthorised repairs or modifications; incorrect charging or storage; non-supplied chargers; and normal wear items - wheels, grip tape, drive belts and bearings.
Claiming. Log a ticket on Returns & Repairs, then email photos and a short video quoting your reference. Valid claims: courier covered both ways, assessment in 3-5 working days of arrival, then repair, replacement or refund. Registering your board at Register Your Board puts your serial and delivery date on file and speeds every claim up.
Chapter 04
Service, Repairs & Upgrades (paid)
- You ship the board to us - the address is confirmed by email once your ticket is accepted, and inbound shipping is for your account. Please don't ship anything before that confirmation.
- Our certified technicians assess it and we send a written quote: the technician's cost plus a Journ-E service fee. No work starts until you approve and pay.
- Once the work is done - or if the job turns out not to be possible - we pay the courier back to you.
Our honest limits. We're a small local team with real expertise but genuinely limited stock, parts sourcing and capacity. Service is limited to what our technicians can genuinely and safely do - some repairs (drive wheels, belt hardware, some non-Journ-E boards) simply won't be possible, and we'll tell you upfront rather than waste your courier fee. Message us on WhatsApp or email first and we'll give you a straight answer, fast, and do our very best to help wherever we can.
Chapter 05
Wheels & Customisation
Self-installation. Wheels purchased separately on the store are fitted, configured and checked by the customer. We'll happily talk you through it on WhatsApp, and a paid installation can be booked through the Service route if you'd rather we do it.
We do not stock drive wheels. Hub-motor drive wheels (motor built into the wheel), dual-drive sets, and belt-drive wheels, pulleys or belt hardware are not stocked by Journ-E - the wheels we sell are standard, non-motorised replacements only. Damaged or worn drive components are tricky, board-specific repairs: contact us before buying anything and we'll assess what's genuinely possible.
Customisation is limited to wheels only, on request and subject to fitment. Motor, battery, ESC and remote performance modifications are not offered - and any unauthorised modification voids the warranty.
Chapter 06
Payments & Security
Checkout runs on Shopify's PCI-DSS-compliant platform with Payfast - cards, Instant EFT, SnapScan, Zapper and Mobicred. Manual EFT/bank deposit can be arranged for larger orders; boards ship once funds clear. All prices are in South African Rand and include VAT where applicable.
Your card details are handled entirely by the payment provider over encrypted connections - Journ-E never sees or stores them. If a payment fails or double-charges, contact us with your order number and we'll sort it with the gateway directly.
Chapter 07
Riding Safety & the Law
Electric skateboarding involves inherent risk, including falls, collisions, serious injury or death. Always wear a helmet - we strongly recommend gloves and knee/elbow protection too, especially at 40-45 km/h. Ride on private property, estates, campuses, parks and paths where permitted; e-skateboards are generally not licensed road vehicles in South Africa, and by-laws differ by municipality. Never ride on wet or unsafe surfaces, beyond your board's load rating, or under the influence of anything affecting balance or judgement.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Journ-E, its suppliers, distributors and retailers are not liable for injury, loss or damage caused by misuse, reckless riding, failure to follow safety instructions, unsafe conditions or riding without protective gear. You ride entirely at your own risk. Full guidance lives on the Safety Guide.
Chapter 08
Privacy (POPIA)
We collect only what's needed to run your order and support you: name, contact details, delivery address, order history, and the details you submit through our forms (returns tickets, warranty registrations, messages). Processing follows the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
- What we use it for. Fulfilling orders, courier delivery, payments, warranty and service records, support, and - only if you opt in - our newsletter.
- Who sees it. Only the service providers who need it to serve you: Shopify (store platform), Payfast (payments), The Courier Guy (delivery). We never sell or rent personal information.
- Your rights. Ask us any time what we hold, request corrections, request deletion (subject to legal record-keeping), or unsubscribe from marketing with one click.
- Cookies. The store uses standard Shopify cookies to keep your cart working and understand site usage.

Chapter 09
Terms of Service
- The store. This site is operated by Journ-E (SD Technologies), South Africa. Placing an order is an offer to purchase; we confirm acceptance by email. We may decline or cancel orders affected by obvious pricing or stock errors, with a full and immediate refund.
- Prices & stock. Prices are in ZAR and can change without notice; the price at checkout is the price you pay. Specifications (range, speed, climb) are manufacturer ratings - real-world results vary with rider weight, terrain and conditions.
- Age. Orders must be placed by adults (18+). Board age guidance on each product page must be followed; young riders must be supervised.
- Acceptable use. Boards must be used as intended and maintained per the manual. Warranty, returns, service, wheels and safety terms in Chapters 02-07 form part of these terms.
- Liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the purchase price of the product; the safety disclaimer in Chapter 07 applies to all riding.
- Law. These terms are governed by South African law, including the CPA, ECT Act and POPIA. If any clause is unenforceable, the rest stand. The standalone version lives at Terms of Service.
