Ask anyone who has come off an electric skateboard what hit the ground first and the answer is always the same: hands. It is reflex, it happens before you have decided anything, and at 45 km/h the tar wins.

Gloves are the piece of gear with the highest ratio of protection to inconvenience in the whole sport. A helmet is more important in an absolute sense and you should wear one — but a helmet earns its keep in a rare, serious crash, while gloves earn theirs in the ordinary low-speed spill that every rider has in their first month.
