FAQ, policies & peace of mind

Shipping, returns, the 7-day cooling-off right, warranty, riding law and battery care - everything in one searchable place.

Shipping & delivery

How is my board delivered?

By road courier, anywhere in South Africa. Because electric skateboards contain lithium batteries, they travel by road freight rather than air. You'll receive tracking as soon as your order ships. Delivery fees (if any) are calculated at checkout.

How long does delivery take?

Orders are packed and handed to the courier as quickly as possible after payment clears. Major centres are typically faster than outlying areas - you'll see the courier's estimate in your tracking. If your order seems delayed, WhatsApp us with your order number and we'll chase it.

Returns & cooling-off

Can I return my order if I change my mind?

Yes. Under Section 44 of the ECT Act you have a 7-day cooling-off period from delivery. The board must be unused, unridden and undamaged, in its original packaging with all accessories. Log the return on our Returns & Repairs page - once accepted, we arrange and pay for The Courier Guy collection, and refund your original payment method within 7-10 working days of the board passing inspection.

What if my board arrives damaged or faulty?

Don't ride it. Log a Damaged/Faulty ticket on the Returns & Repairs page within 7 days of delivery, then email clear photos and a short video of the fault (and the box, if it arrived damaged) quoting your reference. We pay the courier both ways on valid claims, assess within 3-5 working days of arrival, and you choose a full refund, replacement or repair. Damage from riding, water, terrain or negligence isn't covered - but we'll quote you for a paid repair instead.

Warranty

What does the warranty cover?

Every board carries a 6-month warranty from delivery covering manufacturing defects in the motor, ESC/electronics, battery and remote, handled locally in Johannesburg by our certified technicians. It doesn't cover wear items (wheels, grip tape, belts, bearings), crash/impact/water/terrain damage, negligence, or modifications. Registering your board at Register Your Board makes every claim faster.

Riding & the law

Where am I allowed to ride in South Africa?

Rules differ by municipality, and electric skateboards are generally not treated as licensed road vehicles - so public roads used by cars are off-limits or unsafe in most places. Ride on private property, estates, campuses, parks and paths where permitted, keep speed appropriate around pedestrians, and check your local by-laws. When in doubt, don't.

What safety gear do I actually need?

Minimum: a helmet, every single ride. Strongly recommended: riding gloves (we stock them in four sizes), plus knee and elbow protection - especially on the Phantom, Spartan and Relentless where speeds reach 40-45 km/h. Inspect wheels, trucks, brakes, remote and battery before every ride.

What's your liability policy?

Electric skateboarding involves inherent risks, including falls, collisions, serious injury or death. Boards must be used responsibly: protective gear on, safe permitted areas only, never on wet or unsafe surfaces, and never under the influence of anything affecting balance, judgement or reaction time. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Journ-E, its suppliers, distributors and retailers are not liable for injury, loss or damage caused by misuse, reckless riding, failure to follow safety instructions, unsafe conditions or riding without protective gear. You ride entirely at your own risk - the full disclaimer appears on every product page.

Batteries & care

How should I look after the battery?

Only use the supplied charger, charge in a dry area away from flammables, don't leave it charging unattended overnight, avoid storing at 0% or in direct heat, and top up every few weeks if the board sits unused. Never submerge the board or ride through water.

Can I get spare wheels and parts?

We stock standard non-motorised replacement wheels (PU, cloud and honeycomb) plus riding gloves in the Gear section - you fit wheels yourself, or book a paid install through our Service route. Important: we do not stock drive wheels - hub-motor wheels, dual-drive sets, or belt-drive wheels/pulleys. Those are tricky, board-specific parts, so WhatsApp or email us first and we'll give you a straight answer on what's possible.
